HKOC Training 28 April 2013

Today a training session is held by the Hong Kong Orienteering Club at Ngau Liu (near Tai Mo Shan). Corridor and brown map training are included. I have yet to improve my ability to traverse terrain, especially these steep areas.

Corridor training forces you to concentrate on the features within the corridor, and is a good training for map concentration.

Brown map, as the name suggests, involves a map which has all colours other than brown removed. What remains is terrain (contours, along with a few earth features which are also brown in colour). This is thus an exercise on sensitivity to terrain features, which are very helpful to navigation.

The next training by the same club will be held on 17 May at Tai Tong.
